Research

Details of key research studies on parental involvement are included in the DCSF (now known as Department for Education) leaflet entitled The Impact of Parental Involvement on Children's Education.

Here is a brief summary:

  • Parental involvement has a significant effect on pupil achievement throughout the years of schooling.
  • Educational failure is increased by lack of parental interest in schooling.
  • Engaging hard to reach parents has a disproportionately positive effect on student learning and student achievement.
  • A father’s interest in a child’s schooling is strongly linked to better educational outcomes for the child.

In PTA UK’s Annual Parent Survey 2016 more than eight out of 10 (84%) parents said they want to be consulted by the school about their child’s education but nearly half (46%) are unsure if their feedback is properly taken into account by schools
